Update - Dad

Life can take some interesting turns. One week ago my father suffered a life threatening heart attack. Being sustained by a ventilator and 13 IV drips, a miracle has indeed occurred. He has had excellent physicians and nurses to attend him. These devices are gone now and he is able to eat on his own. Today he was moved from intensive care unit to the cardiac patient care unit. He will be going home in a day or two.

We are grateful to have him here with us and pray for a return of his energy and strength. We still have much we can learn from him. We love you.

Thanks to all those who have called and visited. It has made a difference in Dad's recovery and it has been a sweet experience to be together again when our lives goes in so many directions. We are grateful those loving spiritual leaders and neighbors that came to his aid as well. Phone calls and visits are welcomed even when he returns home.

I appreciate my children who have been patient while I have been at the hospital and understanding of the things I could not do. Andy and Laura had an anniversary on Monday. Nathan took his last final today and we will be celebrating his graduation from the U of U on Friday.

Love to you all and good night.

Look Who Turned 37

Happy Birthday Kelly! Now everyone knows how old U R. This is Kelly on one of our memorable trips to Yellowtone National Park. He is our favorite son in law because he was our first. We have more that followed that join him in this rank status. He is a great husband and father. He attends all his kid's activities and coaches Isaac through his many sports programs. Kelly can manage the house well when Julie has her nursing responsibilites. And he is thoughtful to help us out from his busy schedule. Life can be challenging but we appreciate that he has never given up in being a better person. We love you and we hope you enjoy your day.

Soda Jerks

Saturday night was a fun filled Sock Hop at the Church. It was attended by all ages in our area. Dave helped make Rootbeer Floats and Purple Cow Sodas. The 50's and 60's music had nearly everyone dancing. The hall was fancifully decorated with letter jackets, motorcycles and balloons. A 1963 Thunderbird graced the parking lot that got Dave's attention. Even Sherry had a spin around the room while Dave dipped ice cream.

Bump Alert

Sunday we gathered for a family dinner. Seems there were a few proud to show off their bumps. Perhaps they should remain anonymous.

But there was one person that we could get excited about.

Little baby on the way,
Getting bigger every day.
We are happy to welcome grandchild #5;
September is such a little while.
Congratulations to Natalie & Craig!

Billie Jean is the Name of the Dog

Paula sent me these pictures of Jaron's new addition. Billie Jean is a Tea Cup Chihuahua and has nearly reached her full size. Hank, a Great Dane, was scared to death but has since adjusted. When you see Billy Jean you will realize there is something terribly wrong with that statement.

However, McKinley is in love with this dog.

Brinley Goes Limo

New neighbors purchased the home behind Brinley's house. They have four daughters and have relocated from Colorado. The parents wanted to create a fun day for their daughters and called Brinley to see if she could join them in their adventure. The limo driver arrived at the neighbor's house. They started their drive when Brinley realized that she had forgotten her coat.

The driver returned to Brinley's house, and she ran into her home to retrieve her coat while he waited outside.

The girls went shopping at The Gateway. Then they went to the Mayan restaurant at Jordan Commons for dinner. The District for ice cream was their final destination. It was a great afternoon and evening.

This was Isaac's form of travel that day.

For me I have never even sat in a limo or rode a scooter. I must have missed something in my youth and perhaps in my adulthood. Have a good evening and to Rachel - Good Morning!

Plowing Lessons

From the LDS International Art Competition

Linda Curley Christensen Oil Painting

“Our family has a heritage of forgiveness and charity, taught and demonstrated by my second-great-grandfather Peter Shirts, who, after having his life threatened by Indians, came to feed and teach them. This occurred in 1865 on the Paria River in southern Utah. Brigham Young sent Peter, known as ‘Daniel Boone of the Desert,’ to raise a crop. He succeeded, and, wanting to reap the harvest, he stayed too late in the season to return home. He built a cabin front against the mountain by a spring of water and stored his crop in a granary dug into the mountain. During the winter, Indians laid siege, but Peter was secure. When they asked for food, he bargained that if he fed them, they must pull his plow in the spring. When a search party finally arrived, hoping to find Peter’s bones, they found him plowing instead, with Indians pulling his plow.”
-Linda Curley Christensen

See entire exhibit. This work is a testimony of our Lord.

To the Morrill Family, Peter Shirts is my 4th great grandfather. He helped establish the iron industry in Cedar City, Utah. Peter also helped our grandfather, George Drury Morrill, from near starvation during the Hole in the Rock expedition and traveled extensively for Brigham Young. - Sherry Smith
